An outstanding used British Commonwealth collection covering the period 1840 to 1936, housed in a pair of slightly battered New Imperial printed albums. The collection excluded Great Britain but displayed exceptional strength throughout the later Queen Victoria to King George V eras, with extensive representation across many key Commonwealth territories. Particularly notable sections included Antigua, Bahrain, Barbados, British East Africa, British Guiana, British Honduras, Somaliland, Canada, Ceylon, Cyprus, Dominica, Egypt, Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, India including States and postmark interest, Iraq, Jamaica and KUT. Further highlights included especially strong sections from Malta, Morocco Agencies, Mauritius, Natal, Newfoundland, Rhodesia, St. Helena, Sarawak, Straits Settlements, Trinidad and Turks Islands, together with useful Australian States and back-of-book material. Extensive contemporary pencil annotations throughout the albums assisted with identification and valuation, adding to the traditional charm of this impressive old-time collection. Competitive bidding from collectors and dealers reflected the broad strength and rarity found throughout the lot.
